Since the tragic Indonesian Tsunami of 2004, Hurricane Katrina in 2005, The Japanese Tsunami of 2011, The Cyclone Yasi in Australia, Vardah in India and innumerous number of Earthquakes (Haiti, Chile, Japan, Mexico etc..)that have caused billions of dollars in damages and taken millions of lives; Disaster Management teams have focused their approach more on mitigation and preparedness, two elements of the comprehensive disaster management approach. This is when the idea for The Planet Foundation was born. it made us feel like we are so tiny in the scheme of things and unless we are prepared for the worst, there may be no saying how many innocent lives would be lost.
But to achieve this dream, we need to upgrade our Work Programme to focus more on integrating First Responders’ capabilities and managing their responsiveness, public education and community outreach activities, prevention and mitigation initiatives, consequence management and critical infrastructure protection.
Its not just about Disasters, its also about our fragile Environment. There seems to be no letting down in the use of dangerous and potentially crippling toxins thrown into the atmosphere. The UNEP has tried and succeeded in many cases, but its upto us, the common earth being to rise and stop / prevent the recurrence of these issues. The 2 degree Celsius increase in Global temperature is not a myth anymore. Its a startling reality, that most people choose to ignore. All of the Climate Change gurus have predicted it happening. Numerous Acts have been passed, petitions have been signed and summits been held. To what avail?
The lack of funding to start and actualize this dream has caused a lot of duress in the ability to procure quality based tools and material to train and provide assistance in cases of Disasters.
With your help, The Planet Foundation can rise above these issues and do what it was designed to do,,, That is SAVE LIVES and SAVE the PLANET.
